Unleashing Your Workforce Potential: A Comprehensive Review of ‘Work Energy’

Unlike most other self-help or personal development books, Jim starts the books. The author interviews many successful entrepreneurs, distills their secret to success and presents it to you. After reading this book, he is right. It’s not like other personal growth/development books.

This is a book where a millionaire tells you how he became that way. Jim shares some beneficial and relatable stories about the qualities, skills and perseverance required not only to build a wildly successful online business but, most importantly, how to have a whole life and have a relationship with the one you love in life.

I recommend this book to anyone who is in digital marketing or running their own online business. Jim is very candid about how much work and the ups and downs that come with this kind of business. As Jim says in the opening paragraphs, the book is 60% stories and 40% actionable lessons. Still, I would say the book is 100% about what it takes to succeed in entrepreneurship and the self-awareness and conscious effort it takes to live an actualized life by that, I mean to live a life with goals and experience and crushing them regardless of all the side track stumble stones and obstacles we encounter.

In the opening chapters of the book, Jim shares his story as a young, newly married man who moved his family across the US to start law school. While in law school and working at a dollar store.

Jim also started to share his passion for photography while teaching night classes. As students had questions, he would post answers on a blog to make it easier because he would get many of the same questions repeatedly.  Jim always provided values and always focused on and served the people who were his audience with tremendous value. This led him to lift his family out of the difficult financial situation that they were in. To financial independence and providing for some amazing experiences for his family.

Through this journey, Jim stumbles on what motivates him and how it feels when you are in that motivated state. He looks at his wife and his close circle of friends to find out if they have that same desire as we all do to succeed and make better of ourselves and how that manifests in us as humans.

That is where Jim introduces his idea of work energy. You recognize what environment and mental state you are in when you in the “ flow” or “crushing it,” being productive and doing the most important things that need to get done to move your business. Jim breaks down what causes that state in him and gives you actionable so that you can create that for yourself, and then he gives you a profound piece of knowledge he says rinse and repeat that state do everything you have to do to repeat it so that is like having a groundhog day again and again.

Rinse and repeat is an idiom quoting the. Instructions are found on most shampoos, but Jim is adapting them to your success journey.

Jim helps you find out what it takes to get you fully motivated and productive and gets you to repeat that success into success.  He is not whitewashing the digital marketing path, it’s not all rags to Lamborghinis in a year. Jim describes the challenges he had, and he has some great ones. Jim shares a powerful story of loss in this book that lesser people may not have overcome, but it sounds like Jim did, and he moved forward in a productive human way.

Finally, the second lesson and maybe the biggest takeaway I got from this book was this: “Stay away from a good idea,” and what he means by that is to stay focused on the task at hand. As digital marketers, bloggers and affiliates, we are constantly distracted by the newest thing, the latest software, the following plugin, and the next seminar. Those are all distractions from the number one thing, and that’s creating valuable content. Jim breaks down it’s better to have one task, business, or post complete than spending hours planning how you will incorporate the latest shiny new idea you came up with.

I highly recommend this book. It’s full of good stories, and like everything Jim and the Income school team do, it seems genuine. It’s nice to read a book for digital marketers by digital marketers. Like everything Jim and Rickey do at income school, it has excellent value.
